Parents blast school report

27/05/2011 @ 09:44

Angry mothers have bombarded mywelshpool with messages of support for Gungrog Church In Wales Infant and Nursery School which was rapped over the knuckles in its latest Estyn Inspection Report.

The school has been told to brush up on core performance indicators like English and Maths and its slipping attendance record was also highlighted in the report which has mentioned that the school will now create a plan of action to improve.

But parents came out fighting last night after we released the report, saying it far from represents how they feel the school is performing.

Aileen Parry said that the report “contradicted itself” while Gillian Jones wrote that “I have nothing but praise for the school and staff”.

Mywelshpool contacted Powys County Council on Monday after reading the report but has received no reply to date. However, some parents have certainly made their feelings known which will bring some cheer to the school.

Nicki McNamee said: “As a parent of a child at the school I find your report very misleading. My five-year old son has achieved so much since transferring to that school from another local school. He is a much happier and a smart boy. The staff works so hard for the children to achieve the very best of their ability which is of a high standard. Not only do they dedicate so much of their own time to the children but they also help the parents and are the most supportive people I have come across.”

Aileen added that the report needs to “get its facts straight” after claiming that more than the reported six parents replied to Estyn’s questionnaire. She was also critical of our report stating that “You don’t look at how much time and dedication the teachers and support staff put into that school with the rubbish budgets they receive from Powys CC”.

Gillian was also critical of our report and believes mywelshpool should have covered more of its good aspects.

“To see a report like this is so upsetting,” she said. “The way in which you have worded the report makes the school look awful! I know a lot of parents will agree with me and have nothing but praise for the school and its staff.”
