One of Welshpool’s biggest days of the year will captivate the town’s attention on Monday when the annual Carnival will look to the skies and pray for good weather.
The new route following the one-way system will start from Berriew Street Car Park at 1pm while, thanks to a golden gift of £400 from Tesco, a drum band will be positioned outside the Royal Oak to add to the carnival atmosphere.
Carnival Queen Rhian Thomas will be the star attraction as the procession rolls through town before reaching the playing fields at Maesydre where the official crowning ceremony will take place.
There’s a host of entertainment for the entire family to enjoy all afternoon consisting of music dancing as well as shows from the likes of the K9 freestyle dog dancing display and Bernie Bennett’s comedy tightrope act. There will also be a fun fair, stalls and a car boot sale. Entries for the dog show will also be taken from 1pm. Float and walking entries for the procession should be at the Scout Hut off Berriew Street by 12.15pm.
Contact carnival secretary Trish Hodges on 07765 452258 for more information on float and walking entries as well as stall pitches or whether you just want to help out.
