Vacancies for councillors

Welshpool Town Council is to decide what to do about two vacancies that currently exist on the authority.

At the annual meeting on Wednesday night the councillors will be told that Councillor Nicola Morris has resigned meaning that there are now two vacancies.

Members will be asked to decide to either advertise the positions or co-opt new members.

Interim Town Clerk Anne Wilson explained: “We have to advertise the vacancies in terms of process but councillors are being asked when they want to advertise them as there can be no elections until May due to COVID.

“The process is that we advertise the vacancies in the legal way and part of that process includes inviting  residents to call for an election for each vacancy. If no one calls for an election then we can co-opt.”
