Area to fall silent at 11am

11/11/2020 @ 08:00

Our wonderful readers are being encouraged to take part in a moment of Remembrance this morning to mark 102 years since the end of World War One.

At 11am, Britain is expected to fall silent so, wherever we may be, the Royal British Legion is asking us to observe the Two Minute Silence, and to stand on our doorsteps if we are at home.

Despite the Covid-19 restrictions, Remembrance Sunday events were held at War Memorials across the Welshpool area.

Welshpool Town Hall has been lit up in red all week and, in this picture, children from Leighton paid their respects.

November 11 represents the annual opportunity for us all to pay our respects to those who gave the ultimate sacrifice to protect our freedom.

It marks the day World War One ended, at 11am on the 11th day of the 11th month, in 1918. The two-minute silence is held to remember the people who have died in all wars.
