Being pregnant in a pandemic

11/11/2020 @ 08:34

The year has posed plenty of challenges for us all, but for those going through pregnancy, particularly for the first time, it has been a rollercoaster ride of emotions.

But one Trewern mum has decided to open up about her experiences, sharing what she has been through in order to provide support for others facing challenges during these tough times.

Emily Dart, 23, found out that she was pregnant last November and after admitting she had experienced mental health challenges “for as long as I can remember”, the onset of March’s pandemic provided the biggest challenge of her life.

“I’m now a mummy to my beautiful girl, engaged to my wonderful fiancé and in a good place to tell my story,” said Emily, who is writing a brutally honest blog called Mind and Mum.

“Hopefully it will inspire people, with or without mental health challenges, with or without children, that you can overcome any hurdle in life, even in a global pandemic.

“And you can speak up and be open about your struggles because believe it or not, you’re not the only one. It’s ok not to be ok.”

Her blog already contains several enlightening entries that provide an insight into what she has experienced throughout the pandemic.

Thankfully, Emily gave birth to Paisley-May Jones on July 16 in Telford with her fiancé alongside in the delivery suite.

“With Covid-19 locking us down in March 2020, the middle of my pregnancy, being pregnant was a lot different to what I had expected. My blog is to let people know that they are not alone, whether you are coping with mental health or not. You are stronger than you may think!”
