Powys Teaching Health Board has promised to deliver almost 8,000 vaccines per week by the end of the month.
The local health board said that invitations to the 75-80 age group would start going out next week with the county’s 16 GP practices also set to come on board to join the three vaccination centres crated to bring Covid-19 under control.
The three centres at Newtown, Builth Wells and Bronllys are now fully operational, and by the end of next week, every patient aged 80 or over will have received a letter from the health board with their appointment, or inviting them to book one.
The Bard also reminded people not to call their GP about Covid-19 vaccinations at this time as GP staff will be phoning people to make these appointments as quickly as they are able.
By the end of January:
In line with the UK-wide four nation approach, second doses of vaccination will be booked for 11 weeks after the first.
“It is important to continue to follow the regulations on social distancing even after you have been vaccinated,” said a spokesperson.
“The vaccine will reduce your chance of becoming seriously ill, but we do not know yet whether it will stop you from catching and passing on the virus. So it is vital that everyone contributes to follow the guidance on COVID-19 to protect themselves and others.
