Welshpool Livestock Sales report on a highly successful auction at Buttington Cross Welshpool on Monday.
 
OTMS (59)
A good entry of 59 Over Thirty Month Cattle sold to a very good average of £124ppkg for the cows, 122ppkg for the bulls, under 48month 122ppkg for the steers and 130ppkg for the under 48month old heifers. D R Owen & Sons Sandilands sold a Limousin cow weighing 794kg to a top market price of £1230.70. H & S Watkin Cammen Uchaf sold two Limousin cows to £1083.00 and £1052.28. D R Owen & Sons Sandilands also sold a Under 48month old heifer to a top price of £1107.00. Evans Brothers Tynewydd sold two Under 48month old steers to a top of £788.40. D R Owen & Sons Sandilands receives the Briarwood Products Ltd prize of £25 for the highest price older cow sold on the day.
 
FATCATTLE (27)
An excellent entry of 27 fat cattle sold very well to average 180ppkg for the bulls, 175ppkg for the heifers and 160ppkg for the steers. GW & BA Haynes Trefnant Isaf presented three fat heifers to a top market price of 201ppkg and 195ppkg which where both bought by Rikki Lloyd of Welshpool and 193ppkg went to M J Birtwhistle & Co. G E Davies & Sons Cwmbromley also sold three heifers to 194ppkg, 188ppkg and 187ppkg. Steers topped at 169ppkg from D S Jones Fronheulog. G Bound & Son Cefn Bach sold three Limousin bulls to 185ppkg, 181ppkg and 175ppkg. GW & BA Haynes Trerfnant Isaf received the Briarwood Products prize of £25 for the highest price animal sold on the day.
  
PRIME LAMBS (4155)
An entry of 4155 spring lambs, selling to an average of 196ppkg.
Super Lights (48) to213ppkg from W I Ellis Talwrn. 
Lights (524) to 221ppkg from JM & IM Lewis Erwbarf. Others to 217ppkg from RT & J Edwards Llechwedd Ystrad. Average of 203ppkg.
Standards (1343) to 216ppkg from C D Jones Bedol Farm. Others to 213ppkg from R E Astley Rhosgomorog. Average of 197ppkg.
Mediums (2052) to 209ppkg from W Davies & Son Red House. Others to 207ppkg from R E Astley Rhosgomorog and E E Powell & Son Cilpentre. Average of 194ppkg.
Heavy’s (109) to 196ppkg from DE & K B Owen & Son Rhallt Isaf. Others to 193ppkg from Evan Davies & Co Red House. Average of 186ppkg.
 
CULL EWE (2702)
A seasonal entry of 2702 cull sheep presented for sale. Ewes average slightly less at £55.60 per head and rams at £97.69 per head. R Richards & Co Maenllengen sold ewes to £125 per head. R Atkins Isiop Fach sold ewes to £118 per head. C E Pryce sold cull rams to £153 per head.
 
STORE SHEEP
A small entry of couples this week selling to a good average of £138.70. Trade is still remaining at a reasonable high. A hogg with twin lambs at foot topped the sale at £206.00 from F Bailey Pensarn Ystrad Meurig. As found ewes with single lamb sold to £94 from Evans Pantycronw. Hoggs with single lambs were up to £166.00 from F Bailey Pensarn.
There maybe a small entry next week with the sale commencing at 10.30am.
Breeding ewes
A small entry of breeding ewes entered the market this week. Yearlings sold to an average of £94.20, with Texel cross yearlings topping the sale at £104 from Evans Pantycronw.
 
COWS & CALVES
With the weather looking fine a good forecast for the week there where a lot less faces around the ring, which resulted in lower prices on the whole. A limousinx 2nd Calver with an excellent heifer calf achieving a top price of £1560 presented by E & PA & GC Morris Bedren. An entry of seven 1st calvers with Blonde D’aquataine calves at foot born in June, presented by Hasgill Livestock, sold to a top of £1430 to average £1090. A 2004 born cow with a Blonde bull calf sold for £1190 presented by F J Owens & Co Lletygynfach. P D Sheppard & Son sold a 2005 born Charolais cow with a Limousin bull calf for £1100. A Limousinx 1st calver with a Limousin bull calf from I T Jerman Oakfields Cyfronydd sold for £1400 whilst a similar outfit from the same home made £1280. A special entry of 10 Salers bulling heifers from J Greenhall Brynbedw Dutlas sold to a toppf £920 to average £720. Seven Saler bulls from the same place sold to a top of £1040 and averaged £952. A breakdown of the prices achieved where as follows: £1400 - £1600, £1200 - £1400 4 lots, £1100 - £1200 4 lots, £1000 - £1100 10 lots, less than £1000 30 lots.
