Convoys to continue all month

06/09/2021 @ 10:24

Abnormal loads will continue to pass through the Welshpool area for the rest of the month, it has been confirmed.

Last week we reported how it was hoped that the loads heading from Ellesmere Port to the Hendy Wind Farm, near Llandrindod Wells, would only cause disruptions for the week.

But is has been confirmed that journeys will continue through to October 1.

Dyfed-Powys Police said that it will escort one convoy every weekday between 9.30am to 5pm until October 1, hitting our area around 11am.

Sgt Matthew Thomas said: “The convoys are scheduled to be completed on Tuesday the 28th of Sept 2021, however the 29th of September to 1st of October are contingency days in case the delivery schedule runs over.

“The police escort team are doing everything they can to minimise the disruption to the roads and local communities. We thank them for their continued patience and understanding. It is our intention to give regular daily updates on the @powysrpu twitter page.”

The construction of the 150-hectare Hendy Wind Farm is expected to take up to 40 weeks with developers, Njord Energy, stating that it will provide enough power annually to fuel 9,800 homes.
