Initial steps are being taken to turn a seven-acre patch of land east of the Flash Leisure Centre into a Country Park.
The land has been highlighted in Welshpool’s Land Development Plan (LDP) submitted to Powys County Council which earmarks areas for development over the next 15 years.
And as well as the patches of land which mywelshpool has already revealed as being built on for the next generation of homeowners, there is a provision for the Flash area to become the first recognised Country Park in Mid Wales.
The park would be of huge benefit to the town which would enjoy a green area developed with walking routes, open spaces, benches and picnic zones.
“It would be an excellent addition to the town so we need to secure it first through the LDP before coming up with suggestions on how to develop it,” said Town Clerk Robert Robinson. “The initial suggestion was a patch of land at the top of Red Bank but councillors did not like that it was difficult to reach so the Flash area seems idyllic.”
The area in question can be best described as the high school’s ‘old cross country route’ and would not include any of the current sports facilities or grounds under the school and Flash’s responsibility.
“This would be a brand new location for the town and one that would prove very popular I am sure,” added Mr Robinson.
