As our local vaccination centre prepares to move premises next month, Powys Teaching Health Board has revealed that the Newtown hub has administered 125,000 vaccines in just over a year.

The partnership between between Freedom Leisure and Powys Teaching Health Board ends on February 14, when the centre will be switched from Maldwyn Leisure Centre to smaller premises on Park Street.

Adrian Osborne, Programme Director for Covid-19 Vaccination and Test Trace Protect for Powys Teaching Health Board, said: “Our vaccination centre at Maldwyn Leisure Centre has delivered over 125,000 Covid vaccine doses, offering vital protection and saving lives.

“Only venues the size of Maldwyn Leisure Centre can deliver vaccination at the unprecedented scale we have needed over the last 13 months.

“Now, the majority of adults in Powys have received their boosters. This means we are able to step down to a smaller building for the next phase of the programme, and we will be returning to our previous venue in Park Street Newtown by the middle of February.”

First and second dose vaccination continues to be available on a drop-in basis for anyone aged 12+, and you can drop in for a booster if you are 18+.
