New secretary for Llanfyllin Show

13/07/2011 @ 02:26

Llanfyllin Show, fondly referred to as the “friendly show”, has appointed a new secretary in Jill Hollinshead from Llansantffraid (right).

Mrs Hollinshead  takes over the reins from Olwen Roberts, who had held the secretary’s post since 2008. This year’s show, the 142nd, is being held on Saturday, August 13.

Married with a two-year-old son, Alexander, is no stranger to the show, having won prizes with her South Down sheep and bread in the past. Currently training to be a florist, Mrs Hollinshead previously worked for DEFRA in Shrewsbury, Hope House and Powys County Council before becoming a mum.

“It’s a steep learning curve taking over as show secretary but I like a challenge,” she said. “It’s an ideal post for me because I can combine working from home with looking after Alex.

“I have attended the show for many years and fully appreciate how important it is to the community. My aim is to keep things running as smoothly as they have in the past.”

From farming stock, Mrs Hollinshead won the championship at last year’s Oswestry Show with her South Down sheep and has previously shown Suffolk sheep with her mother at local shows.
