Welshpool Livestock Sales report on a highly successful auction at Buttington Cross Welshpool on Monday.

An entry of 39 over thirty month old cattle sold to average very well at 126ppkg for the cows and 125ppkg for the heifers and 164ppkg for the steers. E Morgan Brynderw sold a Charolais cow weighing 844kg to a top market price of £1139.40. R B Bebb & Son Hendre sold a British Blue cow weighing 771kg and making £1110.24 per head. G & NN Wigley Rhosdyrnog sold a Limousin heifer to £970.20. E Morgan Brynderw receives the Briarwood Product Ltd prize of £25 for the highest price older cow sold on the day.   

An entry of two steers sold to average 179ppkg and thirteen heifers sold to average 180ppkg. G Bound & Son Cefn Bach sold two heifer to a top price of 197ppkg and 188ppkg which where bought by M J Biirtwhistle & Co. GW & BA Haynes Trefnant Isa sold four fat heifers to 194ppkg, 192ppkg, 178ppkg and 177ppkg. Evans Brothers Tynewydd sold two fat steers to a top of 179ppkg and five heifers to a top of 193ppkg. G Bound & Son Cefn Bach receives the Briarwoood Products Ltd prize of £25 for the highest price animal sold on the day.

An entry of 5521 spring lambs, selling to an average of 188.04ppkg.

Super Lights (52) to 197ppkg from H J Morris Tynypant. Average of 192ppkg. 

Lights (577) to 203ppkg from D G Jones Cefnhirfawr. Others to 202ppkg from J G Ellis Tynewydd. Average of 197ppkg.

Standards (1491) to 201ppkg from J H Breeze South Moelygarth. Others to199ppkg from R E Astley Rhosgomorog. Average of 187ppkg.

Mediums (3090) to 215ppkg from GW & WW Jones Hill Farm. Others to 202ppkg from J E Thomas Griagwen. Average of 187ppkg.

Heavy’s (250) to 200ppkg from P A Lloyd & T S Weibinski Cartref and A D N Wyke & Sons Shelve Farm. Others to 199ppkg from J Lewis “ Laundry Cottage. Average of 181ppkg.

Over Weights (13) to 161ppkg from A E Casewell Bodynfoel. Average of 160ppkg.  

 

A good show of 2475 cull sheep still selling to a very good average of £67.03 for the ewes and £83.28 for the rams. E J Rowley Penthryn and D T A Williams Upper Bolbro both presented cull ewes to a top price of £113 per head. R H & GJ Richards Rhosfawr sold ewes to £104 per head. E J & ME Davies Coedprydfydau sold cull rams to £115 per head. Weekly sale of Cull sheep to immediately follow the sale of fat lambs.

 

An entry of only 2 dairy cattle met with a superb trade for the animals on offer unfortunately just not enough forward. A 3^rd calver from P Williams & Sons Rhiwsaeth sold for £1120. A Braedale Bambam heifer presented by R & R Corfield & Co Bronynant achieved £1960. Anybody wishing to sell Dairy cattle please contact Richard Evans on 07774 663192.

 

STORE EWES AND STORE LAMBS (10)
The first entry of store lambs for this year, entered the market this week. Zwarble cross tup lambs topped the market at £60 perhead from RJ & ME Davies Coedpryfydau Llanbrynmair. Entries of store lambs and store ewes are expected in the next couples of weeks. If you have any store ewes that you would like to bring to the market, please let us know so that we can advertise them.
