Welshpool Barclays ‘sorry’ for reduced opening days

24/03/2022 @ 08:31

Barclays Bank has reassured its Welshpool customers that there are no pending plans to end its operation in the town, and that its current reduction to three days a week is down to staff shortages.

Customers were shocked to find earlier this month that the branch would not be open on Mondays and Fridays until further notice, prompting fears that it was scaling back its physical operation in the town.

But last night, a Barclays spokesperson told us: “We are actively recruiting for additional staff from the local area, and acknowledge currently at peak times, some customers may need to wait longer than usual. We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause.”

The spokesperson added that “we constantly review our branch network and if we have any announcements in the future, we will proactively let our customers know”.

Welshpool has lost several of its high street banks in recent years, more recently HSBC who ceased operations in the town last year.
