Forget Harry Potter, Welshpool has ‘Dougal’

04/08/2011 @ 12:13

There will be a whiff of wizardry in the air at Raven Square station in Welshpool over the weekend of August 13-14, when ‘Dougal’ the little tank engine and his friends take part in a magical weekend of family entertainment hosted by the Welshpool and Llanfair Light Railway.

On the station platform will be several acts to thrill visitors, including juggling, plate spinning, balloon modelling, story-telling and craft activities for children. There will be bouncy castles to suit all ages, including a ‘pillow fight’ inflatable, so even the biggest kids can join in!

According to W&LLR General Manager Terry Turner, the event promises to be a fun weekend for everyone. “I am sure it will be welcomed by mums and dads who are looking for ways to keep children happy and entertained during the school holidays,” Terry says.

The Magic Weekend runs from 10.30am to 5pm on both Saturday and Sunday, 13th and 14th August. Admission will be £2 for adults, £1 for children over 3 and free for under 3s. However the cost of entry tickets will be refundable against tickets for return trips on the railway to Llanfair Caereinion, provided the journey is taken during the same weekend.

The W&LLR is running its normal full train service throughout the Magic Weekend, along with a special Vintage Train featuring original Great Western Railway-liveried locomotive ‘Countess’ and the three replicas of the railway’s Pickering passenger carriages – the originals scrapped in the 1930s. The vintage train leaves Llanfair at 11.30am, returning from Welshpool at 12.45pm.
