The future of two small schools in north Powys cannot be settled until next month, a meeting of Powys County Council’s Learning in the Community Programme Board has decided.
The board, which met in Llandrindod Wells this week, has been reviewing a number of small schools in the county as part of the county council’s ‘Schools Modernisation’ initiative.
Two schools, Llanfechain and Llangedwyn, remain under review and the Learning in the Community Board has agreed to hold a special meeting at the end of August to consider their future before taking a recommendation to the council’s Cabinet in September.
Cabinet Member for Learning and Leisure, Councillor Stephen Hayes said: “The Learning in the Community Programme Board has received submissions from the schools’ governing bodies and there is also further work to be done in relation to the ongoing availability of church school provision in the area.
“These are important decisions for the schools and communities concerned and it is right that we consider all relevant information carefully before coming to any conclusions.”
