Sniffer dog aids canal sex attack probe

The investigation into an allegation of sexual assault next to Welshpool canal has stepped up this afternoon after a sniffer dog was brought in to the crime scene.

An area of canal between Tesco and the Spar was cordoned off last night and a police officer has been supervising the spot which is at the centre of a sexual assault claim.

Police have not given any more details apart from confirming the allegation and it appears that the location will be off-limits to the public tonight.

The specially trained dog was brought in at around 3pm and spent time sniffing the banks. Following their departure, the police tape was transferred from one of the benches on the canal side to another.
