Police search for ‘hoody’ sex attacker

16/08/2011 @ 11:55

Police have put out an urgent appeal to track down a hoody-wearing sex attacker who subjected a local woman to a serious sex assault on Saturday night.

The patch of canal between the Tesco and the Spar Car Parks has been cordoned off since the assault, which took place at 11.40pm, was reported.

“The young local female was attacked as she walked along the Canal,” said a police spokesperson. “The attacker is described as a white male 18-22 years old, 6’ to 6’ 2” tall with broad shoulders and a thin waist. He may have had lines shaved into an eyebrow. He was wearing a black hoody, a black scarf or balaclava and black tracksuit bottoms.”

Forensic officers and a specially trained sniffer dog have been on the scene and officers will now carry out house-to-house enquiries. The victim is being supported by specialist officers.

DID YOU SEE ANYTHING?

Anybody who was in the area and saw this man or anything suspicious is asked to contact the police on 101. In particular members of the public who may have been walking at this time along Severn Street where the road crosses the canal by the museum are asked to consider whether they saw or heard anything of a suspicious nature.
