Tyre-ing inferno!

One of our readers captured the terrifying sight of a massive blaze that raged over the weekend and took nearly 13 hours to control.

Sallyanne Rogers sent us this image from the fire in Four Crosses that saw a barn full of tyres and other waste go up in smoke.

Firefighters from both sides of the border spent 13 hours on the scene after receiving the initial call just after 1pm on Saturday.

Seven stations in Powys dispatched firefighters with the fire raging by the time crews reached the scene.

“The fire had spread to the side of an agricultural building measuring approximately 30m by 30m,” said a spokesperson for Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service.

“Crews utilised two hose reel jets and one main jet to extinguish the fire using Water Carrier appliances from MAWWFRS and SFRS (Shropshire).

“Crews remained on scene to monitor the area until 2am.”
