Man suffers ‘cashpoint’ theft

Police are warning people using cash machines in Welshpool to be on their guard, after a man became victim of a distraction crime.

The incident happened at 9am on October 4 when the man, who has not been named by police, was withdrawing £200 from the Lloyds TSB Cash Point on Broad Street.

Although police have not given details of the incident, it is believed the man was distracted away from the machine for a few seconds before returning to find the cash had been swiped. It is also not known whether bank CCTV caught the crime on camera.

“When he’s realised what has happened the money had gone,” said PC Jim Baines. “I’d just like to remind people to be vigilant when using cash machines. And for anyone who may have seen somebody take this money to contact Welshpool Police on 101.”
