Welshpool Livestock Sales report on a highly successful auction at Buttington Cross Welshpool on Monday.

An entry of 60 over thirty month old cattle sold well to average 118ppkg for 55 older cows, 3 bullssoldto average 130ppkg, and a under 48month old heifer sold to 127ppkg and a under 48 month old steer to 130ppkg. C J Davies & Son Waengwyn sold a Blonde D’aquatiane older cow weighing 753kg to a top market price of £1121.7. James Brook Weston House sold a Friesian cow to £1042.32. A charolais Bull weighing 1006kg from T G Bennett & Co Neaudd received £1358.10. The Briarwood products Ltd prize of £25 goes to C J Davies & Son Waengwyn for the highest price older cow sold on the day. Weekly sale of OTM’ s ever Monday at 9am prompt.

 

A top price of 228ppkg was paid by Moorland Foods Ltd in the fat cattle ring today for a limousin heifer weighing 469kg from J M Rowlands Dolwen. CJ & ME Williams Minysarn sold a Limousin steer to 206ppkg and Limousin heifer to 211ppkg. J M Rowlands Dolwen receives the Briarwood products Ltd prize of £25 for the highest price beast sold through the ring on the day.

Standards (1487) to 188ppkg from GW & WW Jones Hill Farm. Others to 187ppkg from R G K Hodnett Willey Farm. Average of 168ppkg.

Medium’s (3763) to 193ppkg from D R Owen & Sons Sandilands. Others to 191ppkg from DB & EFJ Gethin Dolyrheol. Average of 174ppkg.

Heavies (1453) to 186ppkg from AK & RC Tudor Lower Heblands. Others to 181ppkg from D R Owen & Sons Sandilands. Average of 161ppkg.  

Over Weights (163) to 161ppkg from A E Casewell Bodynfoel. Others to 159ppkg from NC & AGM Davies Penysir. Average of 150.9ppkg.

 

A slightly reduced entry of 2401 cull sheep sold very well to average £54.36 for the ewes and £95.25 for the rams. CL & C Watkins Bank Farm sold texel ewes to £121 per head. W Jones Glascoed presented ewes to £112.50 per head. JM & A Jones Wig Farm sold cull rams to an excellent top price of £165 perhead on four occasions. Weekly sale of cull sheep to immediately follow the sale of Fat lambs at approximately 12noon.

 

STORE EWES AND STORE LAMBS. 

Store Lambs. A strong entry of 672 store lambs selling to a stronger average of £61.22. Mixed and clean

Lambs sold up to £70 from J P Jones Maesyronen Kerry. Whether lambs from E M Morgan Brynhaul reached £66.50 while texelx tup lambs from M Hughes Rhosaflo Llanfair Caereinion made £74.50.

1152 store ewes made sold through the ring this week with mule yearling ewes from ME Morgan & Co Tynewydd Llawryglyn achieving £154. Two Year old ewes from TA & ME Jones Ystrad Fawr Llanbrynmair, sold to £115 while three year old speckled ewes sold to £109 from E P Jones Esgairiaeth Llawryglyn. Full mouth Texel Ewes from J Edwards Mount Farm Llanfair Caereinion sold to £123. More Lambs required to meet demand. Sale of Store lambs to commence at 10.30am followed by the sale of Store ewes at 11am.

A similar entry of 38 cows and calves met with a good trade for all cattle forward. The top price was £1680 paid for a Limousin heifer with a Bull calf presented by RE & CJ Davies Boycott Hall who also sold a Limousin heifer with a heifer calf for £1600, and others at £1550 and £1500. A six year old Belgian Blue cow with her limousine bull calf realising £1610 was presented by C Dulson of Gallantry Bank Malpas also sold a five year old Limousin cow with a heifer calf for £1600. A special entry of In Calf cows from Arwyn Gro, eight due to calf in February realising up to £1000 with others realising £910, £880, £820 and £800.

The supplementary Texel ram sale on behalf of the Shropshire and Border club took place at Welshpool Market on Monday 17^th October 2011. 82% of the rams presented for sale found new homes.
