Welshpool Livestock Sales report on a highly successful auction at Buttington Cross Welshpool on Monday.
 
OTMS (70)
A good entry of 70 older cattle sold very well to average 123ppkg for the cows and 127 for the bulls. Top price of the day was £1373.75 for a Limousin cow weighing 785kg presented by Bowen & Bowen Penthryn Brooks. Another Limousin cow achieved a good price of £1308.06 from D S W Jones Llwynderw. J A Woods and Sons Kinnerton Farm sold a Limousin Bull to £1447.20. Bowen & Bowen Penthryn receives the Briarwood products Ltd prize of £25 for the highest price older cow sold on the day. Weekly sales of Over thirty Month Old cattle every Monday at 9am Prompt.
 
FAT CATTLE (20)
An entry of 20 fat cattle sold well to average 189ppkg for six steers and 190ppkg for 13 heifers and 169ppkg or the bull. GW & BA Haynes Trefnant Isaf presented three fat heifers to a top market price of 216ppkg on two occasions selling to Rikki Lloyd of Welshpool and Moorland Foods and 211ppkg was bought by M J Birtwistle & Co. Jones Brothers Ystradolwyn sold fat steers to 201ppkg. GW & BA Haynes Trefnant Isaf receives the Briarwood Products Ltd prize of £25 for the highest price ppkg animal sold on the day.
    
PRIME LAMBS (6819)
An entry of 6819 prime lambs, selling to average of 172ppkg.  
Supper Lights (49) to 161ppkg from J G Ellis Tynewydd.
Lights (299) to 185ppkg from S H Lloyd Penlan. Others to 179ppkg from G L Jones Henblas. Average of 170.3ppkg.
Standards (1120) to 187ppkg from H Hughes & Son Hendy and DG & SA Rees & Sons Castell. Others to 185ppkg from Evans Brothers Tynewydd. Average of 171ppkg.
Medium’s (3477) to 191ppkg from M R M Matthews Tanyfron. Others to 189ppkg from D R Owen & Sons Sandilands. Average of 172ppkg.
Heavies (1540) to 173ppkg from J E Thomas Griagwen. Others to 172ppkg from GC & CA Morgan Llidiardau. Average of 161ppkg.  
Over Weights (283) to 165ppkg from BJ & MA Morgan Old Neuadd. Others to 164ppkg from RE & EJ Rowlands Tycam. Average of 150.9ppkg.
 
CULL EWE (3025)
An entry of 3025 cull sheep sold to average of £58.17 per head for the ewes and £81.03 for the rams. E I Hamer Tyllewllyn sold ewes to a top price of £160 per head. J C Bright & Son Upper House sold ewes to £120 per head. D R Owen & Sons Sandilands sold ewes to £119 and £114. Cull rams topped at £250 per head from H Hughes & Son Hendy. T P Jerman Church House sold cull rams to £200 per head. Weekly sale of Cull sheep to commence immediately after the sale of fat Lambs.
 
STORE EWES AND STORE LAMBS. 
Store Lambs. A fantastic entry of 1451 store lambs selling to a strong average of £59.41. Top price for mules theave were 388 from J C Davies & Son Gelli Gethin. Mixed and Clean lambs from D A Jones & Co Bronheulwen sold for £75 while tup lambs from DE & KB Owen & Son Rhallt sold to £65.50.
Store Ewes. An entry of 722 store ewes. Mule yearling ewes from RL & ME Jukes Tynybryn sold to £136 with full mouth texelx ewes making £81. Store lambs sale to commence at 10.30am next week followed by the store ewes.
 
DAIRY COWS
A catalogue entry of eight dairy heifers sold to a top price of £2000 from M T Jones Elms Farm. R R Corfield & Co Bronynant sold a heifer to £1980. Next sale of Dairy cows will take place on Monday 7th November 2011 entries now invited.
