Super dairy set for planning refusal

31/10/2011 @ 03:05

Plans for a super dairy to be built in Leighton are expected to be refused when they go before Powys County Council tomorrow (Tuesday).

Farmer Frazer Jones has resubmitted his plans to expand Lower Leighton Farm to accommodate 1,000 milking cows, but mywelshpool can reveal that the Head of Planning Services has recommended for it be refused after reviewing the file.

Although recommendations can be ignored by the planning committee, the news will cheer the vocal opposition to the plans within the village. Depending on the decision, both sides can lodge an appeal but it can prove to be a costly business.

Mr Jones claims that his plans can turn his ailing milk operation into a profit making entity once again while protesters have voiced concerns about the environmental impact it will make on the village and, in particular, the local school next door to the farm.
