Senior Fire Officer cycles to stations

Powys senior fire officer Jonathan Evans visited Welshpool and Llanfair Fire Stations at the weekend - on his bike.

Over the bank holiday weekend the County Commander for Powys, cycled around all 18 of the county's fire stations.

Starting in Brecon on Friday morning (27 August), he rode to Abercrave first before
completing the strenuous climb over the Eppynt to Llanwrtyd ending the first day in
Llandrindod.

A wet Saturday saw him proceed to Llanfair Caereinion. It rained constantly for over 40
miles of the journey but a good forecast for the rest of the weekend kept him going.

Jon said "I originally wanted to do the ride for fun but decided that as the Fire Service is
working with Tenovus this year, it would be an ideal opportunity to raise money for this
fantastic charity. I hope to raise over £1200 through sponsorship".

Day three saw him pass through Welshpool and Newtown ending at Knighton.

Finally, on bank holiday Monday he rode via Presteigne, Hay, Talgarth and Crickhowell
back to Brecon.

Jon was accompanied on the whole journey by Gareth Jones from
Talgarth Fire Station. Other Fire Service staff taking part for different sections of the
ride were Neil Evans, Ian Morgan, Tim Williams, Mike Evison, Adrian Webb, Andrew
Richards, Mark Morgan & Mark Ayling. He was also joined by Chris Jones (Welsh
Office) for a section.

Jon added: "The whole journey covered 261 miles and I was grateful not to have to do
any of it on my own".
