Council’s £130K fine reduced for early payment

12/12/2011 @ 04:59

The whopping £130,000 fine imposed on Powys County Council following a clerical blunder has been reduced by 20%, an insider has informed us.

The council was in hot water after a confidential child protection report was sent to a shared printer and two of its pages were included into another unconnected report which had also been sent to the printer and then distributed to the wrong recipient by mistake.

It was the second time that Powys had sent confidential information by mistake to the wrong recipient, prompting the record fine by the Information Commissioner’s Office and an immediate apology from council chiefs who promised internal action and stricter training.

But this morning, council coffers have been spared £26,000 after mywelshpool was told: “The fine will be paid from reserves and we will get a discount for prompt payment down to £104,000.”
