Floods and “roads like glass”

14/12/2011 @ 03:14

In the worst night of winter weather yet, residents woke up to some roads closed and others leading to housing estates described as “glass” this morning.

While the gritters were out last night ensuring the main roads remained open as light snow fell and temperatures dropped, the roads to Gungrog Hill, Borfa Green and Red Bank were treacherous with some motorists abandoning their vehicles and walking to work on foot.

One resident, who contacted us anonymously, said: “The roads were like glass, several cars were left abandoned and pedestrians were falling over everywhere!”.

Taxi firm Wright Taxis Facebooked its followers at 3am to warn them that conditions were dangerous with the river bursting its banks at Llandrinio and the road outside Forden Airport closed.

More cold weather is expected in the coming days with temperatures expected to drop below zero well into the weekend.
