Hold your councillors to account: MP

Montgomeryshire MP, Glyn Davies, is urging voters to quiz their County Council election candidates over their views on the big wind farm debate ahead of elections in May.

Mr Davies (pictured) said: “It is now inevitable that the proposals of National Grid to build a 20-acre electricity sub-station and a 400 kV high voltage line from mid Wales to Shropshire will be a Council election issue next May. The deadline for approving major wind farm applications has now been extended to September, which gives the voters of Montgomeryshire an opportunity to express their opinion on the Mid Wales Connection Project at the ballot box.

“Personally, I would like to see some form of public signing process where candidates have the opportunity to declare their opposition (or support) for the impact on Montgomeryshire of the Mid Wales Connection Project and the Welsh Government's TAN8 policy. I know that Conservative candidates in Montgomeryshire will all be opposed to the project, and I expect many others will be also.

Mr Davies says the energy proposals will have the biggest impact on Montgomeryshire since the doubling in size of Newtown way back in the last century.

“Montgomeryshire is facing a determined effort by the Welsh Government and the Department of Energy and Climate Change to drive through the transformation of Mid Wales into a giant wind farm landscape. I realise that councillors will not be able to stop this madness on their own, but many voters will want to know that they will be willing to resist the desecration of our area as far as they are able to. I am committed to doing all I can to help them.”
