A group of short mat bowlers who play in Castle Caereinion have been recognised for their incredible sporting achievements.

Nick Evans and Aled Humphreys have been presented the Chairman of Powys County Council's Golden Kite Award in recognition of their exemplary sporting success.

In November, Nick and Aled became the youngest short mat bowlers to win the British Isles Pairs Championship after comprehensively defeating the champions of England, Scotland, Ireland and the Isle of Man.

Both players have enjoyed captain duties for Wales. Last season, Nick was captain of the under 21 team which defeated England for the second year in succession. Aled is also the first ever captain of the Welsh under 16 team. Between them, they have also won every title in Montgomeryshire short mat bowls, have been Welsh Junior and Welsh Fours Champions.

Receiving the Silver Kite Award for merit is Edward Rees and his son and daughter-in-law Peter and Lisa Rees. The family team have been regular members of the Welsh Short Mat Bowling squad over the past five years and are twice Welsh Fours Champions.

The Rees' have also won every Montgomeryshire short mat bowls title and this season became the first ever Montgomeryshire winners of the Welsh Open Triples Championships.

The group are all members of Castle Caereinion Short Mat Bowls Club and were presented the Kite awards by Chairman of Powys County Council, Cllr Barry Thomas.
