Town Hall to ‘disappear’

26/03/2012 @ 10:40

Welshpool’s iconic Town Hall is set to enjoy a facelift this summer, but it means it will disappear from view.

The £85,000 renovation project will be debated by the town council this week, and is expected to go ahead in a bid to prevent the landmark falling into a sorry state.

More than half of the bill will be picked up by the Severn Valley Heritage Scheme with the rest covered by the Burgess Lands Trust which releases money for the upkeep of town council property.

The work will include a spruce up of the building’s exterior stone work along with several new windows and refurbishment of the clock tower and faces.

Should the town council approve the work, residents are assured that it won’t be done before the Jubilee Celebrations, which include the passing through of the Olympic Torch on May 30 at 10.55am.
