19/09/2010 @ 11:13

Events ranging from nostalgic sing-a-longs to laugh-out-loud comedy - will mark the 80th anniversary of the The Welshpool & District branch of the Royal British Legion, culminating in a town centre parade next month.
Held over the October 1-3 weekend, celebrations will begin on the Friday night with a Town Hall Dinner & Dance including entertainment from international magician Geoff Rushworth, ventriloquist & comedian Paul Levent and live band The Jaywalkers. Tickets are £25 each and available from the branch secretary on 07816 164260.
The following day will see a Military Vehicle Rally on the old sheep pens in Mill Lane featuring a collection of vehicles from the second world war right up to recent times. A procession of the vehicles will take place through the town at midday.
Also on the Saturday, the Town Hall will host a concert – “Happy Days Are here Again” - which is an ‘Olde Tyme Music Hall’ variety show in the first half followed by a sing-a-long to the popular songs of the war period. Starting at 2.30pm, tickets are £6 and can be obtained in advance from Welshpool Jewellers.
The weekend will reach its finale with a Church parade and service on Sunday, October 3. The parade departs Park Lane at 4pm and makes its way to St. Mary's Church (pictured) for a service.
