Montgomery set for ‘big bash’

21/09/2010 @ 11:14

Montgomery will sample what Welshpool enjoyed over the Bank Holiday weekend when organisers of the ‘Bockstock’ festival hold ‘Monty’s Big Bash’ on Saturday night in the Town Hall.
More than 400 people crammed into the Raven Inn gardens, Welshpool, to watch nine of the area’s top bands create one of the town’s most memorable concerts, and Montgomery is set to enjoy a similar impact.
“Bockstock was immense so we immediately decided to try and squeeze in another festival to raise some more vital funds for a very worthwhile cause,” said organiser Ben Picken. “We can promise a night of top class music that will consist of both favourite cover versions and original music from the bands on show.”
Local favourites Colour Sunday will bring the curtain down on their busy summer with a full set, and they will be accompanied by covers band The Tellers who will be fronted by popular solo artist Dai Roberts (above). An acoustic set from Chris Cookson completes the line-up.
Tickets are priced just £5 in advance and £6 on the door and are available from Nigel Picken (01686 668344), R.H. Bunner and Son, Sue Blower, the bands or by e-mailing tellerpromo@gmail.com. All proceeds will go to the Lingen Davies Cancer Centre Appeal which needs a further £200,000 towards its planned £3.2 work at the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital.
In between the two gigs, Ben joined other members of Colour Sunday as well as friends (right) to tackle the ‘3 peaks 24-hour challenge’ to raise more funds for the charity. Joined by Nigel Picken, James Picken, Tom Carter, David Ransome and Kev Evans, the group scaled Ben Nevis (Scotland) / Scafell Pike (England) and Snowdon (Wales) which Ben described as “easily the most physically demanding thing I have ever undertaken”.
To donate towards the Lingen Davies Cancer Centre Appeal, a sponsorship page has been set up to cover the two live music events and the 3 peaks challenge at www.justgiving.com/2gigs3peaks.
