Green light for green fingers

 

Forden, Leighton and Trelystan Allotments Society will welcome Allan Reese, chairman of the National Allotments Society, on Saturday to officially open their new gardens in Grove Lane.

 

It has been a long and hard campaign but the society says it has all paid off.

 

“After encountering many obstacles from the authorities initially and fighting for the formation of local allotments, the society is now opening the allotment that they dreamed of so long ago,” said Society spokesman, Michelle Revell.

 

“The battle that we overcame included finding land, gaining local authority support, planning applications, getting grants and setting up the site.”

 

The chairman of the National Allotments Society will perform the opening ceremony and councillors from both Powys County Council and Forden Community Council will be present.
