Countryside Services turns to Facebook

A council service is utilising social media to raise the profile of the Powys countryside to the general public, the county council has announced.

The council’s Countryside Services Team has created profiles on Facebook and Twitter in order to get more information out to the public about what is happening out and about in the county’s countryside.  They have also been created to encourage people to share their experiences.

The social media presence will include information on events, guided walks and pictures of the impressive, beautiful and varied landscapes that Powys has.

As an incentive to encourage people to follow or like the profiles, the first 250 people who like or follow the profile on Facebook and Twitter will be entered into a draw to win a brand new digital camera.

Cllr Graham Brown, Cabinet Member for Countryside Services, said: “Powys has a rich and wonderful countryside that everybody can enjoy and it is only right that we do everything we can to raise its profile.

“By using Facebook and Twitter, we can promote our countryside not only to our residents but also visitors from far and wide.  We want the public to be able to interact with our pages, either by ‘re-tweeting’ posts, comment on photos and events and give us feedback on what they think.

“We would also like the public to share their outdoor experiences with us by using social media.”
