Welshpool Livestock Sales report on a highly successful auction at Buttington Cross Welshpool on Monday.

A disappointing entry of only 23 cows sold today, selling to an average of 130ppkg. Top price of the day was £996.66 & £980.98 for two Limousin cows weighing 678kg & 637kg from M Maiden Cildyfnog. A Belgian Blue cow under 72 months achieved £1016.76 from DMJ & ME and GDA Davies Monksfield. M Maiden Cildyfnog receives the Briarwood Products Ltd prize of £25 for the highest price older cow sold on the day. A good entry of 21 fat cattle sold to a very good average of 191ppkg for the 8 steers and 202ppkg for the 13 heifers. G Bound & Son Cefn Bach presented three fat animals achieving 226ppkg for a steer weighing 603kg and 235ppkg and 233ppkg for the two heifers weighing 556kg and 504kg. J Corfield & Sons Fairfield sold two heifers to 226ppkg and 221ppkg. S F Jones Malgwyn sold fat steers to 191ppkg. G Bound & Sons Cefn Bach receives the Briarwood Products Ltd prize of £25 for the highest price per kilo animal sold on the day. Weekly sale of Fat cattle every Monday at approximately12.30pm. Mediums (39.5kg to 45.5kg) (2213) to 215ppkg from DD & MJ Evans Pantywynthrew. Others to 210ppkg from BE & BE Langford Lletymeibion. Average of 193ppkg. 

Heavies (45.1kg to 52kg) (356) to 200ppkg from J Ruggeri Gwaelod y Rhos. Others to 197ppkg from PL & PG Bumford Rhosfawr. Average of 188.88ppkg. 

Over Weights (Over 52kg) (14) to 174ppkg from A E Casewell Bodynfoel. Others to 171ppkg from Evan Davies & Co Red House. Average of 166ppkg.

 

An entry of 1685cull sheep on offer for sale today, sold to average £56.45 for the ewes and £103.33 for the rams. Top price of the day for the ewes was £125 per head from D T A Williams Upper Bolbro. Top price for the cull rams was £ 128per head from H M Powell & Son White House. Weekly sale of cull sheep to immediately follow the sale of fat lambs at approximately 12noon.    

The first breeding ewe sale of the year with an entry of 46 Suffolkx and mule ewes on offer. Suffolkx three year old ewes from R & RA Jones Pied House being part of a genuine flock dispersal sold to £137. More expected from this home in the next couple of weeks.

First sale of store lambs this year with tup lambs selling to £50 from D S Humphreys & Co New Mills.

 

A seasonal entry of Store cattle entered the Market today selling to average 197ppkg for the steers and 217ppkg for the heifers.

Six dairy cows at Welshpool sold to a top of £1920 a Regancrest Diehard heifer from GM & U Thomas Bwlch y Graig. An April Day Wisconsin Red sired heifer presented by R & R Corfield & Co Bronynnat sold for £1880. A Roylane Jordan sired 5^th Calver from DTR Hamer Penrhos made £1180. From D N Williams Gilfach was a British Freisian Heifer that sold for £1440. A breakdown of prices were as follows: £1800 + 2 lots, £1400 - £1600 1 lot, £1000 - £1200 2 lots, Less than £1000 1 lot.
