Cancer survivor's plea for walkers

07/09/2012 @ 08:01

Cancer survivor John Evans has issued a final rallying cry for walkers to join his sponsored walk to raise funds for research and Welshpool Rugby Club.

Diagnosed with cancer of the oesophagus in July 2008 John (Gunner) Evans is now in remission after periods of chemotherapy and radiotherapy and has organised the event to help repay those who saved his life.

“As a result of early diagnosis by Dr Ryan at the Welshpool Medical Centre, and the excellent care provided at the Lingen Davies facility at the RSH Ward 21, I am still here to tell the tale” he said.
“Unfortunately this terrible disease leaves very few of us untouched either through personal experiences, family, friends or colleagues, and your help in fighting cancer is very important in the search to find a cure and also to provide much needed equipment for the facilities at the RSH,” he added.
A long time member of Welshpool Rugby Club Mr Evans has organised the walk up Rodney’s Pillar on Sunday, September 16 and is appealing for people to join him.
Sponsorship forms are available from John, call 01938 558872, or from rugby club members and the “Rodney’s Pillar Stroll’’ will leave Rodney’s Pillar car park at 11am. A sponsored cycle ride will start at 10am.
Refreshments will be available at Welshpool Rugby Club after the event.
