Welshpool’s live TV Tour blow

07/09/2012 @ 05:07

Montgomeryshire has been delivered a Tour of Britain blow, after the times of ITV4’s live coverage revealed the area will miss out.

Welshpool is set to pull out the stops to put on a show to remember next Friday, and while it will hopefully be shown on the evening highlights programme, it won’t make the daily live show which starts at 1.45pm to capture the finish.

While it is a blow to local organisers, plans are afoot for the town to make a big impact on the Tour for the second year running.

Powis Castle, which is charging £2 per car for spectators attending the start, is encouraging fans to grow their side burns in honour of Tour favourite Bradley Wiggins with prizes for the best.

The bikes will do a lap of the town centre with residents encouraged to come out in support to provide the sort of colourful spectacle witnessed when the Olympic torch passed through.

ITV4 will broadcast over 24 hours of action from the Tour of Britain with action from every day of the eight-stage The Tour of Britain broadcasted live for the first time.

British fans can look forward to two-hours of live coverage from every stage, in addition to the continuation of the hour long daily highlights, broadcast every evening on ITV4.

The Tour gets underway from Ipswich on Sunday and starts its Welshpool-Caerphilly Castle-to-Castle leg next Friday morning as Stage Six. Highlights will be shown at 7pm that night.
