Police probe Anti-English hate mail

01/10/2010 @ 12:58

Welshpool Police have launched an investigation into anti-English hate mail which has been sent to  an elderly couple, who are now considering fleeing the area.
Mywelshpool has learned that the elderly couple, who we have decided to keep anonymous, received the hand-written letter demanding that they ‘return to England as they are not welcome here’. Police have described its contents as ‘nasty’ and of a ‘crude racist nature’ and have launched a full investigation.
Inspector Diane Davies said: “This is a nasty offence committed by a cowardly individual. The author did not have the courage to sign the letter and that says a lot about them.  I would challenge them to come forward to defend their comments to a panel of their peers or have the humanity to apologise for their actions which have caused considerable distress.  There is absolutely no place in modern day society for this sort of behaviour.”
The couple moved to the area on retirement after holidaying at local caravan sites for more than 40 years. Sources close to them have told us that their dream retirement has turned into a nightmare and they are so upset that they are considering a move away from the area.
Inspector Davies added: “We are extremely disappointed that residents have been treated in this way.  Any form of racist or anti-social behaviour will be fully investigated by the Police, and the persons responsible will be dealt with accordingly.”
Welshpool Police urge anyone with information to come forward by calling 101.
