Rogue Traders strike area again

03/10/2010 @ 06:18

This weekend has seen rogue traders target the Welshpool once again and police are warning the public to be on their guard.
Last month, Powys Trading Standards issued a warning to local people not to fall victim to rogue traders, and police in Welshpool have sent out another caution today (Sunday) after a number of complaints were received about a group of individuals selling items from the back of their vehicles.
“We are urging members of the rural community in Welshpool to be vigilant following this scam,” said Detective Constable Zoe Powell. “Please stop and think carefully before handing over any money in these types of circumstances. It’s important not to buy items or services from unsolicited vendors. If in doubt, please contact Dyfed-Powys Police or Powys Trading Standards.”
In addition to selling items at over inflated prices, the item purchased may not be as it is branded but an inferior-quality copy.
“I would also like to take this opportunity to remind people not to disclose any personal bank details to doorstep callers or over the phone, and to remember to shred any documents containing confidential information.”
If you have information regarding this type of criminal activity, call Dyfed-Powys Police on the 101.
