BBC “monitoring Armstrong situation”

18/10/2012 @ 08:37

In a mywelshpool exclusive, the BBC has confirmed that it is monitoring the Lance Armstrong situation “closely” in the light of widespread and growing allegations of doping.

The 2003 BBC Overseas Sports Personality has been accused by the US Anti-Doping Agency of being at the centre of a doping operation involving his US Postal Team, and this week alone he has had his annual £4.6 million sponsorship deal axed by Nike and resigned as chairman of his Livestrong Foundation cancer charity. He has also been dropped by bike giants Trek and electronics store RadioShack as the extent of his deception unravels by the day.

It is likely that his seven Tour de France victories will be declared null and void, leaving the sport with a massive clear up operation in his wake.

But local riders too have been venting their anger at Armstrong with one contacting us to ask why the BBC had not rescinded his 2003 Award.

However, a spokesperson confirmed to us last night that action could well be taken.

“Lance Armstrong was voted Overseas Sports Personality of the Year based on his sporting achievements at the time. However we recognise the seriousness of the allegations being made and will monitor the situation closely,” she said.

So as the EPO enthusiast rapidly faces the cost of his cynical, career-long deception, it seems there is an even rockier road ahead for the fallen idol.
