Arrests follow Llanfair, Welshpool drugs raids

06/10/2010 @ 01:41

Police made three arrests last night following two separate operations targeting drug dealers in Welshpool and Llanfair.
Two arrests were made following the raid on Llanfair Caereinion and a further person was arrested in Welshpool as police continue to clamp down on drugs misuse in the area. Last week, a female youth was arrested in Guilsfield following a community patrol there.
But despite the arrests, the local police force has insisted that the area is not facing a major drugs problem.
Sergeant Darren Brown, of Welshpool police, confirmed:  “We don’t have a major drugs problem in the area, but there are a minority of people who will continue to use drugs in their everyday life which can have an impact on crime and anti-social behaviour.
“We will not tolerate drug and alcohol misuse whatsoever and encourage members of our communities to report their suspicions to us so that we can deal with individuals and groups rapidly and effectively. We will endeavour to deal with these issues positively with our partner agencies to improve the quality of life for our residents.”
All issues can be reported on the new Dyfed-Powys non-emergency number of 101 or via e-mail at welshpooltownnpt@dyfed-powys.pnn.police.uk. Residents with information that do not wish to give their name can call crime stoppers anonymously on 0800  555111. You may be eligible for a community action trust award.
