Mid Wales Housing Association has been told that 99% of its properties now meet the Welsh Housing Quality Standard (WHQS). And it says that 100% will be achieved by March 2013.
Incredibly the Welsh Government has published a report this year highlighting that only a third of properties owned by public sector landlords had met the Standard as at March, 2012, so the Association is happy.
Aidan Ackerman, Director of Operational Services, said: “Meeting the Standard demonstrates the Association’s continued commitment to its tenants and the communities throughout Powys to provide not just affordable homes but ones to the highest quality and standard.”
The Welsh Housing Quality Standard measures 42 different elements which fall within the following broad categories – The property must be:
In a good state of repair
Safe and secure
Adequately heated, fuel efficient and well insulated
Contain up-to-date kitchens and bathrooms
Well managed
Located in attractive and safe environments
And as far as possible, also suit the specific requirements of the household (e.g. specific disabilities).
