Load of rubbish

Two months on, and the new rubbish collection service is still causing friction among town residents with evidence arising this week that some are still ignoring the new system.

Pockets of the town are still ignoring the fortnightly collections of general waste and leaving bags of rubbish out for days on end. One Borfa Green resident said he has contacted the council every week to complain about one specific problem.

Showing us the gathering of rubbish left on the pavement at Coed y Bryn (pictured), he said: “This will be left here until it is collected next week and by then it will have been scattered all over the place by animals. I am not sure what planet some of these people are on but it leaves a health hazard. It is not rocket science, just leave them out fortnightly on the dedicated day before 7.30am! It's just a reckless abuse of the syetem.”

The new fortnightly collections for general rubbish were introduced by Powys County Council in a bid to encourage us all to recycle more, with recycling collections still weekly. Some residents, however, are excluded from using the wheeled bins for various reasons and can still leave out rubbish in sacks. It appears to be a minority of this segment that are abusing the system.

“They think that by leaving these sacks out of their sight then it is not their problem, but it is happening every week,” said the resident.

All recycling and rubbish kerbside collections will return to the normal day from Monday 7th January 2013.

In areas where kerbside recycling collections have been introduced and wheeled bins are emptied (or purple sacks are collected) every two weeks your week will not change.
