Arrests follow seizure of counterfeit chainsaws

08/10/2010 @ 09:29

Four counterfeit chain saws have been seized and arrests made following complaints from farms in the Welshpool area.

The equipment was discovered following the utilisation of  Automatic Number Plate Recognition technology when a vehicle passed through and alerted police.

The suspect vehicle had been associated with offering for sale suspect chainsaws to farms in the Welshpool and surrounding area. Dyfed-Powys Police officers located and stopped the vehicle and then performed a search.

The chainsaws were seized on the grounds they are counterfeit or potentially unsafe. The equipment was inexpensive and of poor quality examples and two had stickers proclaiming to be STHIL: model 5200 - the company doesn’t even manufacturer a Model 5200!

Dyfed-Powys Police would like to reassure members of the community that these type of offences are rare in Powys, but urges people to be vigilant following this case.

"Please stop and think carefully before handing over any money in these circumstances. It’s important not to buy items or services from unsolicited vendors. If in doubt, please contact Dyfed-Powys Police or Powys Trading Standards," said a Dyfed Powys spokesman.
