All aboard for a new tourism trail!

Plans are in place to recreate the former town centre route taken by the Welshpool & Llanfair Light Railway as a walking trail for tourists and residents.

The train used to deliver stock from Llanfair through the town and all the way to the Smithfield Market, but progress saw that come to end at its current station at the Raven.

But local history enthusiast Alan Crowe has decided that the route could be revived as an important piece of the town’s history. The trail will incorporate information panels, murals, and much more, but it needs your helping hand to get it off the ground.

A lot of people – both locals and visitors - don't realise that the train once passed through the town,” said Alan. “A few years ago the Town Council looked at the possibility of bringing the train back into the town, but this was deemed impossible so I suggested the idea of the trail.”

A funding bid has been placed to cover the costs of the murals, leaving a balance of £1,200 to cover the panels, information booklet and marketing to be raised through donations and sponsorship.

Anyone interested in making a donation of between £1 and £100 can do so through Crowd Funder by following the on line link. http://www.crowdfunder.co.uk/investment/wllr-town-trail-1537

Any groups, individuals or organisations who would like to have an illustrated guided walk along the route or anyone with stories to recall about the train coming through the town should contact Alan on 07782 166342.
