Dog ban d-day delayed

06/02/2013 @ 01:32

The decision on whether dogs should be banned from several public areas in Welshpool will be taken in March, a month later than originally planned due to the big response from residents.

The debate has boiled over publicly this past month since we broke the news that a fed up town council was proposing the strict measures due to the increasing problem of dog mess.

And readers in a MyWelshpool poll backed the decision by more than two-to-one for dogs to be banned from open public spaces which host sporting or children’s facilities.

The issue has become more pressing with Welshpool set to open a National Park behind the Flash this summer. Others areas proposed include the new open spaces at Brookfield Road and Maesydre’s playing fields.

A council spokesperson said: “The Council will be considering the responses to the Dog Control Orders and will be considering their decision on each of the areas concerned on Wednesday, March 27 at 7pm in the Council Chamber of the Town Hall.

“This is one month later than first published because we have had quite a lot of responses and it will give us time to look at them all.”

A full report will be presented to councillors based on the public response, should you still want to make your opinion know, contact the town council by February 15.
