MyWelshpool readers are helping to create a little slice of literature history, by finally turning a Sherlock Holmes novel into Welsh!
Since we publicised an appeal made last month by a Welshpool group of Holmes enthusiasts, hundreds of pounds have been raised towards the cost of translating and publishing The Speckled Band into Welsh. It could cost up to £1,500 to make Welsh the 99th language that the super sleuth books, written by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, has been turned into.
“The response has been fantastic,” said Roy Upton-Holder, from the Welshpool branch of the Deerstalkers Society. “We still have some way to go and the names of those who donate will be mentioned in the preface to the publication and on this page unless they wish to remain anonymous.”
