Vandals cause thousands in damage

Fed up Powys County Council are asking for your help in stopping thieving vandals that have caused motoring mayhem and thousands of pounds in damage to temporary traffic lights.

The latest attacks, on lights west of Welshpool near Llangadfan and Foel, have resulted in cables being cut and batteries stolen, leaving motorists exposed to dangerous country roads.

The first set of lights, close to Foel, have been targeted three times in the past month, costing £2,200 to repair and replace.

And on Monday night, batteries were stolen from lights located from the A458 by Glanymorfa Junction, near Llangadfan. The cost to replace the batteries will be £760.

Cllr Barry Thomas, Cabinet Member for Highways, said: “The culprits are endangering drivers by targeting these lights and I would urge anyone who has seen anything suspicions to report to the police immediately.

“These regrettable incidents will have to be paid for out of the public purse.”

If you have any information, contact police on 101.
