‘Slow down’ appeal after weekend carnage

Local emergency services are urging drivers to reduce their speeds after a weekend of carnage of Mid Wales roads.

The Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service (MWWFRS), Dyfed Powys Police and Wales Ambulance Services attended five serious traffic collisions over the weekend, one on the outskirts of Welshpool, and its prompted a

Jim Cameron Corporate Head of Community Risk Reduction at MAWWFire said: “This weekend we attended numerous serious road traffic collisions where several casualties became trapped.

“As well as utilising our hydraulic rescue equipment, we also deployed line rescue teams because of the precarious situation of one of the vehicles. These collisions mean tragedy for individuals and families. We would urge people to ensure that they wear seat belts and reduce their speed.

“After a long dry spell we have wetter more unsettled weather on the way and this will mean less grip for tyres and increased stopping distances. If in doubt please, slow down!”

Five people were taken to hospital following the smash close to the Welshpool by-pass.
