Nearly 1,000 motorists were not wearing seatbealts during a recent blitz by Dyfed Powys Police.
The March two-week campaign was designed to raise awareness of the dangers of not wearing a belt with 959 offences recorded in the force’s area.
Assistant Chief Constable Carl Langley, Dyfed Powys Police said: “It’s disappointing that wearing a seatbelt, which is such a fundamental part of road safety, still isn’t second nature to some and they continue to put lives at risk. The message for drivers and passengers is clear: the next time you even think about travelling in a car without wearing a seatbelt, take a second to consider whether it’s really worth the risk - and belt up.”
Motorists and passengers face a £60 Fixed Penalty Notice or be summonsed to court where they could face fines of up to £500.
The force says it will run more campaigns through the year that will tackle issues including drink/drug driving; driving whilst using a mobile; speeding as well as careless and reckless driving.
