Music like never before

Welshpool is urged to get behind what looks like a magnificent day of live music being held next month.

The Welshpool Music Festival will see more than forty live acts perform at six venues across the town with a grand finale in the Royal Oak on May 26.

It represents a massive response from the local music community which answered a call from the Festival’s creator, Kuldip Wesson-Caberwal, to support his idea of creating a platform for promoting local artists.

The result is shaping up to be something special with the schedules released last night.

“Again, I am knocked out by the generosity of the musicians who support and recognise the motive behind what we do,” said Kuldip. “We are now into year five and finding more musicians applying to play from further afield.

“This is a good indicator as it means Welshpool is truly on the festival circuit and attracting greater visitor numbers to our town.”

Astonishingly, the event has not received a single penny of funding but it is hoped that some money can be raised this year through donations and ploughed back into stage/lighting/recording equipment available free of charge to musicians established or just starting out.

Venues confirmed include The Green Dragon, The Talbot, The Pheasant, The Royal Oak, Bistro7 with Kuldip “hoping to add The Angel too”.

“The format in most venues is a band for one hour followed by acoustic half hour slots providing continuous music,” Kuldip explained. “Dai Robs will be organising the evening session and the end of festival band starting at 11pm at The Royal Oak once the other venues close. We hope all involved, the landlords, bar staff, sound engineers, musicians and the public will come and enjoy the culmination of what will surely be a great day.
