Welshpool Livestock Sales report on a highly successful auction at Buttington Cross Welshpool on Monday.

OTMS (73)

A good entry of 73 Over Thirty Month Cattle sold to an overall average 133pkg. A Limousin cow weighing 689kg sold to a top price of £1198.86 from J Thomas & Son Tanhouse Farm. A Welsh Black cow from T H Davies & Sons Clegyrddwr. A Limousin cow under 72 months of age weighing 645kg from W I Jones & Sons Cilcwm Fawr sold for £1199.70. J Thomas & Son Tan House receives the Briarwood Products Ltd prize of £25 for the highest price older cow sold on the day. We will be holding a sale for TB Tested over thirty Month cattle from Monday 8th April at 9am in ring 2. FAT CATTLE (17)

A better entry of 17 Fat Cattle sold to average 223ppkg overall. G Bound & Son Cefn Bach sold three fat heifers for 264ppkg, 260ppkg and 261ppkg and a steer achieved 262ppkg. Evans Brothers Tynewydd sold six fat animals to average 227ppkg. G Bound & Son receives the Briarwood Products Ltd prize of £25 for the highest price per kilo animal sold on the day. Weekly sale of Fat cattle every Monday commence at approximately 12.30pm. More Fat Cattle urgently required to meet a very strong demand from potential purchasers. Lights (25.5kg to 32kg) (134) to 196ppkg from FG & G Mountford Middle Heldre. Others to 172ppkg from D H M Evans Fron Farm. Average of 182ppkg.

Standards (32.1kg to 39kg) (735) to 196ppkg from N E Jones The Gaer and J A Thomas & Son Pontypentre. Others to 195ppkg from D H M Evans Fron Farm. Average of 182ppkg.

Mediums (39.5kg to 45.5kg) (1078) to 235ppkg from Ystym Colwyn Farms. Others to 229ppkg from Lythwood Sheep Ltd. Average of 213ppkg. 

Heavies (45.1kg to 52kg) (569) to 231ppkg from Ystym Colwyn Farms. Others to 230ppkg from EW & KE Benbow Ffrydd. Average of 222ppkg. 

Over Weights (Over 52kg) (175) to 221ppkg from CJ & LM Davies Lawns Farm. Others to 215ppkg from Powys Poultry. Average of 203ppkg.

 

SPRING LAMBS (1655)

An entry of 1655 spring lambs, selling to an overall average of 269ppkg.

Super Lights (17.5kg to 25kg) (14) to 260ppkg from H Hughes & Son Hendy. Average of 251ppkg.

Lights (25.5kg to 32kg) (65) to 276ppkg from JM & MG Oliver Cilcewydd. Others to 274ppkg from R C Lloyd 103 Dolgwenith. Average of 261ppkg.

Standards (32.1kg to 39kg) (607) to 309ppkg from J Corfield & Sons Farifield. Others to 306ppkg from R Gittins Henfaes. Average of 269ppkg.

Mediums (39.5kg to 45.5kg) (912) to 294ppkg from BE & BE Langford Lletymeibion. Others to 291ppkg from J A Williams Llechwedd Ddyrys. Average of 268ppkg. 

Heavies (45.1kg to 52kg) (47) to 259ppkg from H G Ellis & Co Tynywern. Others to 255ppkg from P Unwin Tymawr. Average of 247ppkg.

Over Weights (Over 52kg) (4) to 227ppkg from DES & ER Bickerton Lloran Ucha. Average of 220ppkg.

 

CULL EWE (2423)

An entry of 2423 cull sheep on offer for sale today, sold to average £49.44 for the ewes and £71.36 for the rams. Top price of the day for the ewes was £08 per head from P G Wainwright & Co Parcyresgob. Top price for the cull rams was £114 per head also from P G Wainwright Parcyresgob. Weekly sale of cull sheep to immediately follow the sale of fat lambs at approximately 12noon.    

 

STORE LAMBS, COUPLES & CADE LAMBS.  

A small entry of 2 pens of store lambs. Mixed and clean lambs achieving £30 from E W Gwilt Cwm Mawr. Tup lambs achieving £41 from J G Owen Abercannon. Nine Cade lambs sold to average £11.

An entry of 500 ewes with lambs at foot. Ewes and lambs averaged £104. Top price of £180 for strong Texel yearling ewes with single lambs at foot from MJ & JM Price Penycrug Farm. Similar ewes aged three year old to Full mouth sold to £177 from R L Roberts & M D Squires Kemp Brook Farm. And four year old  Texel ewes sold to £176 from D H Owen Tygwyn. A good entry of Hoggs and lambs, top price of £176 achieved for strong mule with single was lambs at foot also from MJ & JM Price Penycrug Farm. Sale of store lambs to commence 10.30am with couples and cade lambs to follow.

   

COWS & CALVES

With a better show of cattle on offer trade was improved which was a fair representation of the cows and calves forward. Leading the way was RE & CJ Davies Boycott Hall, Yockleton with Limousinx British BLuex 1st Calver with a Limousin Bull calf at foot which made £2420, with two other outfits at £2300 overall the six from Boycott Hall averaged £2121. IJ & MEO Jones Plas Madoc sold a Limousinx British Blue 1st Calver with a Limousin Bull calf for £2280. Presented by DP & RE Evans Moelygarth where three Limousinx 1st Calvers and a Herefordx 1st calver with Limousin calves at foot which made £1820, £1750, £1990 and £2100 respectivley. N & C Read Brinepits sold a Hererfordc Cow with a Limousin heifer calf for £2110. F J Owens & Co Lletygynfach presented six Blinde D’aquatainex cow with Blonde Calves at foot which sold to a top price of £2300 for an 2008 with bull calf at foot. Others sold from £1420 to £1860 to average £1630. A Pedigree Charolais bull born 1st July 2006 from B T R & R Gittins Loower Sylfaen sold for £2120. A breakdown of the prices achieved where as follows. £2000+ 11 lots, £1800 - £2000 3 lots, £1600 -£1800 6 lots, £1400 - £1600 7 lots, £1200 -£1400 3 lots, less than £1200 2 lots.

 

DAIRY COWS

An entry of 11 Dairy cattle met with a sound trade once again with a total clearance and new buyers in attendance. Leading the way was T G Phillips & Co Burgedin Farm with a Sandy Valley Bolton daughter giving 27 litres making £2060. Three heifers from WA & EM Morris Maestanyglwde sold to a top of £1920 to average £1733. R R Corfield & Co Bronynant sold a Wa-Del Hayden heifer for £1850. JC & W Davies Gartheryr sold a Genus Westminster 2nd calver for £1800 whilst two heifers from the same home made £1700 each. A Bomaz Homestead heifer from EG & A Edwards & Son Tynewydd sold at £1710. A breakdown of the prices achieved where as follows. £2000 + 1lot, £1800 - £2000 3 lots, £1600 - £1800 6 lots, Less than £1500 1 lot.
